When building new, it is imperative to remove top soil to reach a stable foundation to build from. Once grade is obtained, a layer of Geotextile material is laid onto the drive (this helps prevent gravel from pressing/drifting into the soil). Next we spread and pack a base stone of 1.5-2" in size at an avg of 3" in thick. Lastly, we cap the base layer with a 3/4 stone at an avg of 3" in thick.
